Song plugging, pitching or the act of getting the songs recorded is an art unto itself. Thank God we have these talented people that dedicate their lives to this very necessary part of getting our songs cut. This person has the gift of putting songs with artist by using the contacts it has taken years to accumulate. They listen to the songs as close as the writers do. Sometimes they even make suggestions to the writers letting them know inside stories on what recording acts are looking for. The most important part of the song plugger’s life is relationships, after great songs nothing means more. Yes it helps having a relationship with recording artists, but if that is not possible the best thing to have is one of these world class pluggers.
Like we’ve mentioned early there is no sure fire way to write a hit or a formula, that being said a lot of writers do use a formula or use rules to write. I think once you learn the formulas that gives you the right to break the rules, meaning you should know what the rules are before you try to break them to be a consistent hit maker.
Now being a consistent hit maker is how you get into this book in the first place. Each writer has sold in excess of 10 million in sales or has written a standard in any Genre. Those were the only two guidelines we used when inviting songwriters to join in on this project. We came up with 20 questions that we ask each writer and we get as many different answers as we have songwriters. We used the questions to put the writers at ease and get used to the cameras being in the room. We feel that is the way we are getting the shots that we are, getting a relaxed very real shot is what we are after, to capture the writers as they truly are, their essence if you will.
